Senior Pictures at KU
Kate | Santa Fe Trail High School
When Kate’s mom contacted us, she knew one thing for certain; Kate wanted her senior pictures at KU. We were excited to explore the largest university in the state of Kansas and create stunning senior portraits along the way.
To start, we had Kate sit on the stairs of an old building made of red stone, which just happened to be next to a grove of beautiful green trees.
Senior Portraits on an old Stone Bench
We fell in love with an old stone bench and moss-covered wall just outside the library. Kate laid down and looked ethereal in her navy blue floral dress. Then she played around in the archway under the library’s main entrance. The wrought iron sunflower behind her evoked the feeling of an abandoned cathedral.
Portraits in a Fountain
As we explored KU’s sprawling campus, we found an ancient fountain with crystal blue waters. Naturally, Kate threw her hair up, jumped in, and gave us a bright smile!
Senior Pictures on an Old Staircase
The fountain was in the middle of a long abandoned roundabout built for carriages. Behind it was an old iron gate that led to a long stone staircase. For her portraits on the stairs Kate threw on some distressed jeans, a black tank top, and a black hat.
Reflective Glass Portraits
Although KU is known for it’s old architectural treasures, we found the modern Field House building to be extremely beautiful, and perfect for a senior portrait backdrop. Kate posed around with the massive walls of glass, her pinstriped jumper echoing the vertical lines in the building. This Kansas senior definitely has a big city chic side!
Senior Pictures with Prairie Grass
We chose the rust covered walls of the Agriculture building for the final area of Kate’s senior pictures. She put her favorite outfit back on and looked incredible among the warm golden tones of the tall prairie grass surrounding the building.
Kate, we had an amazing time photographing you, and hope you enjoy every single one of your gorgeous senior pictures!
Longview Mansion Wedding Peek
Cory and Whitney had a beautiful Longview Mansion Wedding. It was a mix of country class with refined elegance, and a touch of home spun love with all of the do-it -yourself details. This wedding was a romantic piece of joy. We felt so blessed to document it.
Here is just a sneak peek. I think you will get the feeling of this wedding and all the love shared this day.
I meet people and they inspire me. It could be from the way they look to the way they laugh. Katherine had a smile that made me want to take her picture. When I met her I wanted to be a part of their big day just because I knew that I would love photographing her. She was beautiful to say the least and very much an excited bride. This sweet stunning bride was going to marry a great guy, Adam, who I truly believe looks like he could kick some butt in an action movie. They inspired me to photograph them like they were on an action movie poster. The couple was more that just playing the part – they are the real deal, true love with honest romance. Tomorrow this wonderful couple will be picking up their wedding disk, something I am very excited for. But before I post their wedding, I wanted to share with everyone their cool Kansas City engagement session.
When I shared a sneak peek on Facebook, I immediately got calls and emails about the session; “Where did you take those photos?”, “Is that in Kansas City?”, “Is he an actor?”, and “How did you come up with this?”, “Was that a commercial shoot?”… The questions went on and on . I even had photographers calling me asking me how I did this because their clients wanted a photo shoot just like it. Another photographer told me that when their clients asked for this photo shoot, they laughed and were a little nervous because I was the photographer, they said that there was no way they could compete with what I did, it didn’t matter what their clients wanted. It made my week to hear that. Thanks to inspiration, an amazing couple, and loads of creativity. Enjoy!
Kansas City Engagement Session
Couples Photos in Kansas City
There were joggers running up an down the steps to McCormick and Schmick’s when Noorah and Brett arrived, Marco and I were running a little late due to the couch riding in my back seat. I couldn’t see very well with the traffic and was driving slower than usual, but we made it only 5 minutes late and that is totally on time according to most of my college professors whose clocks always seem to run just a little behind. The last runner cleared the Spanish tiled steps and we all laughed as we described our mornings so far, it was only 8:30am. By 9 the Plaza streets were screaming with traffic but that didn’t stop my creativity. When I was asked to take photos at The Plaza I knew I had to do something unique, something unexpected. Honestly my competitive nature came out as Noorah explained that her friend recommended the place. Yes the steps are pretty. They’re Spanish, but they are located in such a place that everyone and their dog has had pictures taken there, including Noorah’s friend. I for one want to be different. And tried really hard to get Noorah not to take photos by the blue tiled stares. But when Noorah said she had this perfect dress, my heart melted. Then she said, “you will do it better than everyone else, that is why I hired you.” So…. I was determined now to photograph those blue tiled stairs like no one else, creating art just for this lovely couple. .
Now I have conquered the stairs. YES!!!!! Erin-1 : Plaza-0.
Next I needed to get the feeling of the Plaza, the city, the shopping, some architecture. Now I am at a crossroads, I still have to out do every Plaza photo I have ever seen. Here comes the couch! Marco helped me put a couch in the middle of a median for Brett and Noorah. One of the hardest things I have ever done with an engagement session. The noise was crazy and I was shooting from the median across from them so there were cars driving in-between us. But they loved it and I made a statement at the Plaza and created something original in a very un-original over shot location! Erin-2 : Plaza-0!
Before we were done with the session we made one more stop. The city street! And while were were there someone drove by and yelled out their car “WOOHOO – GO PHOTOS EDGE!!!” It made my day. Noorah and Brett cracked up laughing and I knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that this session would go down in the history books as the hardest most complicated, crazy AWESOME engagement session ever!!!! Huge Thank you to Noorah and Brett for pushing me to be better, pushing me to be creative, and trusting me to create something unique for them! Love it!!! Please Enjoy!
Ben constantly smiled at Jami and she would smile right back. Their favorite photos were the shots of them being themselves, showing off their love and honestly, friendship. They never spoke about friendship but I could see it, they were best friends and on their wedding day Ben and Jamie will say I do forever to their best friend. They laugh hard like friends, joke like friends, but they smile like they are in love. I can’t wait to photograph their wedding next year filled with joy and laughter just like their engagement session.
The color blows me away, I love it! Jami’s sense of style makes me giggle, it is just like mine. When Ben and Jami first walked into our studio Ben was wearing something that looked strangely familiar and as we talked about their wedding we got side tracked and started talking about clothes. I asked Jami where she got her shirt. “Either Anthropology or Nordstrom?” With hesitation, I may in fact be wrong. Jami smiled, sat up a little more and said Nordstrom. We talked about how that is probably my favorite store, hers too. And then I asked where Ben had gotten his shorts, he laughed and said Jamie bought them. I laughed because Marco has the same pair that I had gotten him. We wrapped up the conversation on an amazing high note of shared shopping styles and were on our way towards photographing a wonderful couple. To no surprise I would wear everything Jamie has on in these photos. It was great styling and I had perfect locations to show them off. The personality and clothes that is. 🙂 Enjoy!
