Kate | Santa Fe Trail High School

When Kate’s mom contacted us, she knew one thing for certain; Kate wanted her senior pictures at KU.  We were excited to explore the largest university in the state of Kansas and create stunning senior portraits along the way.

To start, we had Kate sit on the stairs of an old building made of red stone, which just happened to be next to a grove of beautiful green trees.

Senior Portraits on an old Stone Bench

We fell in love with an old stone bench and moss-covered wall just outside the library.  Kate laid down and looked ethereal in her navy blue floral dress. Then she played around in the archway under the library’s main entrance. The wrought iron sunflower behind her evoked the feeling of an abandoned cathedral.

Portraits in a Fountain

As we explored KU’s sprawling campus, we found an ancient fountain with crystal blue waters. Naturally, Kate threw her hair up, jumped in, and gave us a bright smile!Summer senior pictures Senior Pictures in a fountain

Senior Pictures on an Old Staircase

The fountain was in the middle of a long abandoned roundabout built for carriages.  Behind it was an old iron gate that led to a long stone staircase. For her portraits on the stairs Kate threw on some distressed jeans, a black tank top, and a black hat.

Reflective Glass Portraits

Although KU is known for it’s old architectural treasures, we found the modern Field House building to be extremely beautiful, and perfect for a senior portrait backdrop.  Kate posed around with the massive walls of glass, her pinstriped jumper echoing the vertical lines in the building. This Kansas senior definitely has a big city chic side!

Senior Pictures with Prairie Grass

We chose the rust covered walls of the Agriculture building for the final area of Kate’s senior pictures.  She put her favorite outfit back on and looked incredible among the warm golden tones of the tall prairie grass surrounding the building.

Kate, we had an amazing time photographing you, and hope you enjoy every single one of your gorgeous senior pictures!

Owen was full of smiles, laughter, and at times tears. His mom and dad played with him to getting him to giggle. When his sister jumped it, he laughed so loud and really broke out those cheeks. As a Kansas City children’s photographer we want the experience to be fun for the kids and the family, we work patiently with you while your child gets used to us and our cool new environment. This session was for Owen’s grandparents. We had photographed this family several times, and with each addition to the family a new canvas has to go on the wall. I can’t wait to see this little guy on a black and white canvas.

Eloping in the mountains | Colorado Wedding

Elopement in Colorado

Colorado Wedding | A Mountain Elopement

Ethereal Romantic Wedding in the Mountains

I had just pulled up to a small gas station in a remote country town driving home from North Carolina’s Outer Banks. It was beautiful and we chose to take the scenic route home through the mountains, when my phone rang. I was beyond thrilled I even had service. On the other end of a sketchy connection was Christie, with the words. “Don’t hate me but….”  My heart started pounding. Christie is a creative, and having worked with her on several photoshoots I knew that she had a random, yet brilliant idea. However, this usually meant that my job just got harder. I laughed and we lost the call.  Without fear I turned to Marco and said, “I bet she elopes”.  Marco laughed and thought that would be so cool.

A few minutes go by, we are still pumping gas, and as I hold my phone at just the right angle it gets signal.  I happily and loudly chat with Christie while she asks if they can turn their destination engagement into a wedding. She liked the idea of saying vows in the mountains with just a few friends and God. I was over the moon. This was perfect for the couple. Brad grew up in Colorado and loved his mountains. They are his home. It made sense to embrace the location with a wedding.

Driving to Colorado for a beautifully romantic intimate wedding was exciting! We arrived early and scouted locations for the ceremony, portraits, and a fun evening of drinks at a local pub. It was quite the tour with Brad as our guide.

The day of the wedding, we pulled up to the cabin and saw Christie sitting in a hammock, tears softly rolling down her cheeks as she wrote her vows.  The sun cut through the trees creating a perfect spotlight. I call this God light. It was the remarkable start of a stunning wedding.

From tears, to romantic vows, and mountain top portraits this ethereal Colorado wedding is a beautiful depiction of true love.  Thank You Christie and Brad for inviting us to write your photographic novel.  Your story is breathtaking!

  • You can also view their wedding in EA Bride Magazine, they gave this wedding several pages, it is definitely worth the read.

Senior Portraits in Kansas City | Courtney

Kansas City Photographers | Photos Edge

I don’t think I have a favorite moment from Courtney’s senior portraits, there were so many good ones.  It would be hard to come up with just one because the whole session was fun, capturing Courtney with style and grace.

A few exciting things that happened:

– She brought her dog! I LOVE this dog!

-When I showed Courtney the back of the camera for the first time, after we sat on the floor with a chandelier, she lit up. Right then we all knew this was an amazing photograph.

-Her friends showed up for support and joined us for a handful of photos with their bestie.

-Another moment that pushed me to a full smile was when Courtney laughed beautifully, sitting on the steps of the Nelson-Atkins museum of art in a stunning white dress. Courtney’s mom made a comment, “Oh, you are so beautiful” in a very happy and lively voice. That comment took Courtney by surprise, the photo is priceless.

These are just a few favorite moments we shared while creating lasting memories and a lot of beautiful senior photos. Enjoy!

Photography Going Personal | KC Photographers

Personal Portrait Photography | Divya

Photography has always been something personal to me, especially as I put my heart in the click of every shutter. Something that I have learned over the years is the importance photos have on our lives. How images today speak a thousand words, and at times it feels like we are talking 90 miles a min, especially on Instagram. It has become more apparent that we have to put ourselves out there visually with personal portrait photography. To show our families that we are ok, to get that job we’ve always wanted, to just show the world “I am happy and doing really well”.

Over the past 5 years I have had the privilege to expand our photography business into something special. We provide portraits to couples, not just people getting engaged but couples of all ages and walks of life. I have also expanded into personal portrait photography, taking commercial / senior portrait style portraits for the individual. These photos can be done at anytime, you don’t have to be graduating to get amazing images. There should be no limits on artistic portraits.

Here is a recent personal portrait session. I think Divya is stunning. She was great to work with and is simply beautiful.  Thank you for choosing me to take your photos. I hope that you love them.

The Seconds that Make Wedding Photography Count

Kansas City Wedding Photography

Wedding Photography

A few favorite  wedding moments captured by Photos Edge

Through the years there are thousands upon thousands of photos we have taken.   Each one striving for the perfect wedding photograph.  For us one of the best ways to capture a wedding is to realize the importance of what is going on.  This isn’t just a job, this isn’t just another moment.  On a wedding day there are the standard photographs that all decent wedding photographers should already know to capture.  Among some of the most standard moments are: a couple’s first kiss, first dance, walking down the isle, throwing of the bouquet or garter, bride getting ready, just to name a few.  However I am not known for being standard.  I don’t want my couples just getting the minimum. My amazing wedding couples deserve more than that.  Those events are not what I am looking for, I look for what happens before, during, and after those moments.  The seconds filled with pure joy, utter anticipation, honest emotion, and the best reactions that make for an outstanding wedding. Today I am going to share a few of my favorite emotional wedding moments.  These are the important seconds that fly by but will keep everyone talking about your wedding for years to come.

All hands on deck.  Sometimes it takes an army to get a bride put back together after the wedding portraits are over.  On this day the wind took it’s toll on all of us, but the photos were amazing and everyone had a great time.  I will see that wind and raise you perfect photos. It was sweet every time they looked at Austin.  She would smile right back at Randi and Matt and then once more she would look right at me.  It was exciting to see this little family come together, not only for an engagement session but to celebrate their lives in a family portrait.  The wedding isn’t far off from being done.  But before I show off this once in a lifetime, to die for wedding.  I thought that I should share the really adorable family portrait / Engagement session we had taken.  It is amazing how much of an impact family portraits have in a home.  Especially to kids, it makes them feel special.  Even though Austin will not remember this day, she will grow up looking at the photos knowing she was loved.  Everyone deserves to feel special.

If you are in need of some family photos we would be happy to help pull your family together and capture wonderful moments for you.

Kansas City Engagement Photography: Urban Movie Poster

Kansas City Photographers, Engagement Photography, Photos Edge

I meet people and they inspire me.  It could be from the way they look to the way they laugh.  Katherine had a smile that made me want to take her picture.  When I met her I wanted to be a part of their big day just because I knew that I would love photographing her.  She was beautiful to say the least and very much an excited bride.  This sweet stunning bride was going to marry a great guy, Adam, who I truly believe looks like he could kick some butt in an action movie.  They inspired me to photograph them like they were on an action movie poster.  The couple was more that just playing the part – they are the real deal, true love with honest romance.  Tomorrow this wonderful couple will be picking up their wedding disk, something I am very excited for.  But before I post their wedding, I wanted to share with everyone their cool Kansas City engagement session.

When I shared a sneak peek on Facebook, I immediately  got calls and emails about the session; “Where did you take those photos?”, “Is that in Kansas City?”, “Is he an actor?”, and “How did you come up with this?”, “Was that a commercial shoot?”…  The questions went on and on .  I even had photographers calling me asking me how I did this because their clients wanted a photo shoot just like it.  Another photographer told me that when their clients asked for this photo shoot, they laughed and were a little nervous because I was the photographer, they said that there was no way they could compete with what I did, it didn’t matter what their clients wanted.  It made my week to hear that.  Thanks to inspiration, an amazing couple, and loads of creativity.  Enjoy!

Fun Engagement Session: Jake + Kasara

Engagement Session with Jake + Kasara

I work in a unique way. I pull things out of my clients but they also pull things from me.  If I have a crazy fun couple that is just flat out silly, I will rock that like no tomorrow. I mean, I will  photograph them.  Isn’t that the goal?  To photograph the real couple, or the view that the couple wants to give the world. For Jake and Kasara, it wasn’t hard to get funny, silly, or crazy shots.  Many love candids and I really do.  And even though we have a refined style and have a tendency to do regal really well, I think that we managed to get those shots for Jake and Kasara and also everything fun.  I even try to get funny and crazy to look museum quality.  Hanging out with Jake and Kasara is like meeting up with an old friend, the longer the conversation goes the more the time melts.  The way Jake looks at Kasara when someone compliments her is sweet.  There is this simple smile that goes across his face as if to say, “Yep, I tell her all the time.” Kasara blushed a little with compliments while Jake held her softly.  Through the subtle love shots to the crazy fun candid moments, I think that we captured not only Jake and Kasara’s love but who they are as a couple.  Enjoy!

I think we had taken 3 photos when Ryan Kissed Kayla’s hand and then celebrated with a fist pump in the air.  We weren’t just taking pictures we were celebrating their love, their future, and this moment.  I could have photographed them for hours, they were a joy to work with.  Every moment Kayla would smile a little bigger or laugh a little harder.  And with each passing moment Marco and I realized we were making new friends.  Sometime in the near future drinks are on the way, as promised in a phone conversation.  Where I was give some of the hardest questions ever.  I was about to walk into a meeting when Ryan became the ultimate salesman and turned the marketing table on me, I had 15min to sell myself and my company.   I love a good challenge especially from someone who not only knows their stuff but really respected our business.  It didn’t feel like 20 questions nor was I in a job interview. Ryan knew I had a job and he wanted to understand what that job was.  In the end I was sooo excited and completely overjoyed because I knew without a shadow of a doubt that I could fulfill what they wanted.  I could capture them, their love, the emotional tears, the over joyed friends.  We capture moments. Kayla and Ryan have so many already, I can’t wait for their day!  Enjoy!

It seems as though I have been doing a ton of Engagement sessions and well we have!  Along with all of the weddings, this seems to be a great season of engagement photos.  It was wonderful getting a call from Lauren and having a last minute session with her and Lance right before their wedding.  It was fun getting to work with them, but honestly it was just flat out a good time and they look good too. 🙂  We did a little mini session since it was last minute and they still managed to rock out a ton of photos.  Here they are and I am excited to see which one Lance and Lauren pick for the gallery wrap that will be displayed at their wedding in about 2 weeks.

Please don’t take images off of the blog I will be uploading to Facebook shortly. Enjoy!
