Couples portraits in a slideshow

I had to share this couple’s portraits and engagement session today. I couldn’t just let this slideshow sit on my computer, it had to be shared with the world. Every couple gets to view a slideshow of their images when they come in to proof their engagement session, and it’s so much fun!

What most people don’t know is that I actually struggle with finding the right song for each couple.  It’s something I take so much time doing.  I know, I know, that it shouldn’t be something that takes a lot time. But we as photographers don’t get to just pick a popular song and plug it in. No. What many don’t know is that it’s against the law to play just any song.  To avoid the music copyright lawyers from knocking loudly on our doors, we buy our music with special licensing. Triple scoop music is the best place to purchase great music to use as a business. I spend hours listening to their music and finding the ideal song. “Anything for you” by Fisher is one of my favorites, it’s perfect for this wonderful couple.

Sindhu and Anton stole my heart. Sindhu has this laughter that is contagious. She laughs with her whole body when she is truly happy.  It’s big and honest.  Anton is her rock, her safe place, I understand because Marco is mine. I see so much of our relationship in them.  It’s beautiful the way Anton loves her, you can see it in the smallest of glances. And she adores him. This couple falls together. Take a look at their very real love.  I hope you get the feels like I did.

A Sweet Kansas City Engagement Session

From the moment Mike and Jillian stepped out of their car laughing and smiling with each other, I knew this engagement session would be anything but boring.  My excitement grew when I saw that the color of Jillian’s dress actually matched the location I had picked out for this fun loving couple!  As we began the session one thing became extremely apparent about Jillian and Mike: they are each other’s favorite person in this world.  When they look at each other their smiles get bigger, and when they touch the atmosphere around them seems to get brighter.  Soon they even had me smiling behind the camera.

Jillian and Mike, I am looking forward to capturing more moments of fun and affection during your Kansas City wedding, and to see your smiles light the room as you become man and wife. For now, enjoy these fun engagement photos, I certainly enjoyed creating them!!

She held my coffee gently as I took a photo that was destined for Pinterest. A perfect Mocha and a lovely heart shaped design carefully crafted. Moments later Marco brought two cups of coffee and cream for Kelsey and Brian to have. I stood there outside of Quay coffee in the River Market of Kansas City, with camera in hand photographing them in between delicious sips. We chatted about artists, college, costume shops, and our favorite café which will always be 3 fools. Brian, our soon be groom, was a founding member and one of the 3 fools. Needless to say Brian is an excellent chef.

This Kansas City Engagement session started out chill and fun. I wanted Kelsey and Brian, who had come down from Minneapolis, to be themselves. We relaxed with a more lifestyle engagement session, focusing on genuine smiles and creating great moments. Marco and I were happy to include their pup.

As we were wrapping up our coffee photo shoot, we giggled at how hipster this all was. I chose my favorite coffee shop and they happened to match the sailor theme. It was perfect without anyone trying too hard. The truth is, this couple was just being themselves. These are the people that hipsters try to become. Years from now Kelsey and Brian will still be artistic and cool and chill in all the right ways.

Their success blows me away. I love watching artist succeed! Kelsey, who is designing her own wedding gown, has always left me in awe with her creations. She is a fantastic designer and I can’t wait for their wedding this weekend!

Congratulations! Marco and I are excited!!!

Romantic Portraits in Kansas City

Kansas City Photographers | Photos Edge

They made me laugh, they made me laugh so hard. I couldn’t stop smiling from behind my camera, the jokes, the flirting, then the subtle embrace and his lips fell softly on her cheek. The sun was shining through the few clouds that were left from the morning sprinkles, and then the rain would start to fall again. A few drops hit Jeff’s shirt and while I was still laughing, Stacia beamed! What else could she do, she was in love with a man who adored her every breath. Somewhere in between the shifting clouds and the laughter, Marco and I watched a love unfold. Genuine smiles, true hugs, and long kisses; we were capturing real intimacy. Thank you Jeff and Stacia for opening yourselves up, trusting that we would capture your abundant love and true passion for each other.  Please enjoy these romantic portraits of a love that will last forever.

I wanted to give a huge shout out to Jeff and Stacia, our new found friends and fellow photographers.  Jeff happens to be the president of the Iowa PPA (Professional Photographers of America).  Marco and I are honored that they chose us to photograph their special day! Urban Studio Engagement Session

Taking me by surprise, Marco dipped Asona in our studio for a “fun shot”, I was thrown off because my Marco (Marco Polo) and I had taught ballroom dancing many years ago and only the pros dip like Asona and her loving man Marco. Yep 2 Marco’s here! Another wonderful thing Asona and I have in common. Our love for flurly (yes a made up word for dress that spin) dresses, our love for dance, and to top it off the love of a man named Marco. Yes we were on the right track. The hour seemed to fly by and the images were sweet, heartfelt, and fun!

To get to know this lovely couple here is a snip it from them:

How We Met

We met in college, at WashU, near the beginning of  Marco’s senior year and Asona’s junior year.  On that special day that we’re both so thankful for, Asona and her friends went to a party at the Loop Lofts thrown by Marco’s friends and next door neighbors.

As it turned out, we had known a lot of the same people throughout most of our time at WashU, had somehow never gotten to know each other.  Asona really didn’t feel like going out that night, but boy is Marco happy that she did.
He saw his beautiful future co-exister from the across room, sitting on the couch with an open seat next to her, and went over to introduce himself.

The conversation flowed easily right from the start as they started finding out more about each other, and laughing and enjoying each other’s company.  The party got broken up by the police pretty early on, but they both remember being almost unaware of everything else going on around them, just sitting on that couch, focused on each other, before and after everyone else left.

By the end of the night they had discussed religion and politics, views on family and money – all of the things that you’re not supposed to talk about on a first date – with plenty of laughs, and smiles and heart-flutters mixed in.
Marco cooked dinner for her a few days later, they ran into each other several times in the next few days – some by chance, some not – and didn’t spend another day apart until Thanksgiving.

The rest is history. ~Asona & Marco

Stunning Kansas City Engagement Session | Photos Edge

Jose + Stephanie a beautiful engagement

The wind whipped through Liberty Memorial and the hustle-bustle of tourists and guests made it seem like we weren’t in the midwest.  It felt larger than that.  This Saturday reminded me of New York in the middle of a Tuesday afternoon. Streets filled with people, the sound loud yet muffled, not quite as bold as rush hour, but busy.  I love the busy.  It makes me feel like life is happening, a reminder that we are not alone.  After turning the corner our smiles crossed paths, the two best dressed people there ready for their photo shoot.  The greeting quickly turned to conversation as we began heading over to one of my favorite areas at the Liberty Memorial. Every time we hang out or talk it’s like getting together with old friends, we just pick up where we left off. I love the variety in this session. And the clothing choices… let’s just say the two looked like they walked right out of a magazine.  With great class, a touch of traditional, simple romantic moments, to bold gestures, and fun dance moves; this session is not only well rounded and artistic but it captures Jose and Stephanie’s love for each other and life. Please enjoy!

Engagement Photo Preview: Stephanie & Jose

I was culling this lovely engagement session today and I couldn’t help but post a preview for Stephanie and Jose.  There are so many photos that are my favorites I can’t choose.  But I love this image because for a few seconds I was allowed to photograph the two of them in their bubble. I know, cheesy bubble talk, but that is how I roll.

Please enjoy this sweet romantic Kansas City Engagement photo.

Engagement Session also Used as Family Portraits

It was sweet every time they looked at Austin.  She would smile right back at Randi and Matt and then once more she would look right at me.  It was exciting to see this little family come together, not only for an engagement session but to celebrate their lives in a family portrait.  The wedding isn’t far off from being done.  But before I show off this once in a lifetime, to die for wedding.  I thought that I should share the really adorable family portrait / Engagement session we had taken.  It is amazing how much of an impact family portraits have in a home.  Especially to kids, it makes them feel special.  Even though Austin will not remember this day, she will grow up looking at the photos knowing she was loved.  Everyone deserves to feel special.

If you are in need of some family photos we would be happy to help pull your family together and capture wonderful moments for you.

Kaitlyn and Nick’s Creative Stylized Engagement Shoot

Amazing 50’s styled Engagement Session

Kansas City Engagement Session by Photos Edge

Luck couldn’t have come at a better time.  I was looking for ways to be creative.  To photograph something that I hadn’t done before.  Then while scheduling Kaitlyn’s engagement session she talked about what she had planed and ideas she had for her upcoming photo shoot.   We knew from the moment we took Nick and Kaitlyn out to dinner, that an amazing 1949 classic car was going to be apart of the engagement session.  So of course what did I do?  I talked about the session all the way home.  A lake of some kind, romantic feeling, cute props… anything that would add to the ambiance, making this engagement session extraordinary.  Kaitlyn had the same thoughts, she also wanted it to be more creative and unique than everything she had seen.

I began to dream of this session, and at 3am when I couldn’t sleep I started a private board on pintrest for Kaitlyn and I to share.  I dug up anything that I could find with cute suitcase props and vintage cars.  I had a vision and as an artist it is sometimes hard to express my vision to my clients, but that is where trust comes into play.  Between passing back and forth inspiration ideas Kaitlyn and I both became very excited.  In fact I couldn’t wait to photograph this session.  Marco and I scouted out a great location a few days before the shoot.  While a dear photography friend of mine Deanna, lent me her suite cases, books, globe.  With Kaitlyn and Nicks comforter, my cameras, not to mention Nicks car added into the mix; we blew this engagement session into a stylized shoot.  I had a great time creating photographs that are one of a kind for this fantastic couple.

Kaitlyn is so beautiful I had a blast just photographing her for awhile.  To end the evening, we took a few casual and fun photos with balloons.  I really think that we captured their love.  I can’t wait to photograph their wedding, which is coming soon.  Jump Up and Down Excited!!!!

Bold and Colorful Engagement Session

Chris and Jeannine’s Urban Engagement Session

Bold and Colorful Kansas City Engagement by Photos Edge

The session was wonderful, and as my car broke down after the great session my heart sank.  There we were, all four of us on the 12th street bridge at 4:30pm anticipating rush hour to hit.  Marco and I for the first time had car trouble.  We made a few phone calls to get help but we also had to push back the photo shoot that followed Chris and Jeannine’s.  I was a nervous reck.  I felt like my whole life and all of my problems were unfolding in front of my clients.  And here I am admitting to it and sharing it on the web, it’s like showing my dirty laundry to the world.  I am not perfect.  Even though I truly wish that I was.

I was a ballerina for several years and a competitive gymnast even longer.  In fact one time the olympics seemed possible. Why I am sharing this? If you haven’t guessed already, I strive to be the best that I can be. So when my car broke down, while pushing back tears as another couple expressed how disappointed they were in me because I couldn’t make it to their location fast enough, I had Chris and Jeannine sitting in their car making sure that I was ok. They waited with us until we got something figured out and were safe.  Their understanding and compassion made me fall head over heals for them.  They were wonderful.  They are the reason I love my job.  Even in my toughest spot when it was an inconvenience for them, they stayed and helped with no judgement.  Lets face it, we all run into problems.  For me, this was huge.  I am about to publish their wedding today.  And I am happy to say that we gifted  10 additional pages to their album because they are that awesome.  Thank you Chris and Jeannine.  You will forever have a place in our hearts.  Enjoy the beautiful session!

This is forever, Kyle and Kira’s Engagement Session.

KU engagement session

A love for a lifetime

Kyle and Kira’s Engagement Session in Lawrence Ks

Images that tell a story, photos that touch the soul, moments we want to relive over and over again, there is no getting around it, we all want a love for a lifetime . And I want to share the beauty of that love with the world. There are always struggles in life, all of those difficulties make love worth having.

When the pieces of a soul fit together intertwining two different pasts, creating a promise of a new future, there is a subtle pause where Einstein’s relativity is no longer a theory.  I feel like we chase that millisecond of perfect love for the rest of our lives with our significant others, not realizing that we will always have it.  Every time Kyle held Kira a moment came when she would relax beautifully in his arms.  They both simultaneously would exhale and that millisecond was found.  Here is Kyle and Kira’s love, laughter, and wonderful moments photographed on the KU campus in Lawrence Ks, where the two met.  Kira said that some of her best times were spent on that campus.  So, going back for their engagement session was a must have. Enjoy!

Kansas City Engagement Photography: Urban Movie Poster

Kansas City Photographers, Engagement Photography, Photos Edge

I meet people and they inspire me.  It could be from the way they look to the way they laugh.  Katherine had a smile that made me want to take her picture.  When I met her I wanted to be a part of their big day just because I knew that I would love photographing her.  She was beautiful to say the least and very much an excited bride.  This sweet stunning bride was going to marry a great guy, Adam, who I truly believe looks like he could kick some butt in an action movie.  They inspired me to photograph them like they were on an action movie poster.  The couple was more that just playing the part – they are the real deal, true love with honest romance.  Tomorrow this wonderful couple will be picking up their wedding disk, something I am very excited for.  But before I post their wedding, I wanted to share with everyone their cool Kansas City engagement session.

When I shared a sneak peek on Facebook, I immediately  got calls and emails about the session; “Where did you take those photos?”, “Is that in Kansas City?”, “Is he an actor?”, and “How did you come up with this?”, “Was that a commercial shoot?”…  The questions went on and on .  I even had photographers calling me asking me how I did this because their clients wanted a photo shoot just like it.  Another photographer told me that when their clients asked for this photo shoot, they laughed and were a little nervous because I was the photographer, they said that there was no way they could compete with what I did, it didn’t matter what their clients wanted.  It made my week to hear that.  Thanks to inspiration, an amazing couple, and loads of creativity.  Enjoy!

A Polished Urban Engagement Session

West Bottoms Urban Engagement Session

These two are cute as can be. We rocked out a wonderful West Bottoms urban engagement session. Even though it was urban it was still refined. From fun loving, often poised, to very giggly.

Someone once told me that my urban sessions are unique because they remain polished and aren’t grungy. I love that.  Polished is a great way to describe the Photos Edge style.  And polished one word I would use to for Sean and MiToya.  This hour seemed to fly by. I had a blast photographing every minute of it.  We looked for the best reflective light I could find and then they simply got to be themselves, with a little guidance from me to make sure everything looked perfect. The way they wanted it.  Everyone needs a little guidance, that’s why we are here.  To help you look good being in love!  Please enjoy this session!
