Something had happened, tears were streaming down my face and into the sink. As I looked into the mirror at my piercing green eyes (they get bright emerald-green when I am really upset), Michele walked into the ladies’ room of our church.  She was a kind woman, always put together, beautiful, and somehow reminded me of my mom when I was little. You know, the mom that picks you up when you’re crying, or drinks tea with you when you don’t actually want to talk.  I was the quiet, let’s not talk about my feelings, person.  My poor mom.

Anyway, Michele reminded me of those days, sitting in the formal living room with my mom.  She came into the bathroom and smiled at me, she didn’t ask what was wrong, and it didn’t matter, especially since I don’t remember why I was so upset to begin with.  I was probably misunderstood at the time, or needed a huge miracle to pay some bill or even pay rent. Whatever the case may be, she warmed my soul with a simple hug as she handed me another tissue.

I don’t like to be touched when I am sad because I totally lose it.  Standing in that bathroom I totally lost it for a solid 60 seconds.  Then I wiped my face. She complimented my outfit and told me everything would be ok. She didn’t say it to blow me off and it wasn’t filled with fluff, she meant it.  And she was right.  Everything ended up being ok. I am sure that I was in her prayers that day, and probably that night.  I don’t think that Michele remembers because I actually think she does this for women often.  She picks up their broken hearts with love and prayer and helps them find themselves.

Marco and I saw the Davenports in church every Sunday. They sat up front closely behind the pastors, and soon our family found themselves sitting near them. I feel like those were the best days, but they clearly weren’t, I was crying in a bathroom. At that time, almost 10 years ago, we had hope. Lots of hope!

Marco and I came from nothing, for real: we moved 5 times in one year, a natural disaster, a death, a big cancer scare, and to top it off an apartment blown up.  YES.. Blown up!  So, when I say we came from nothing… I mean it.  By the time we found our church we were finally able to breathe. And things did get much better. Somehow I miss those days of making new friends and feeling like there was nowhere to go but up, because that was all there really was. It was in those years that we started our photography business. I love how things start. That’s why weddings are so huge for me, it’s the start of a love story.

Ten years ago, God put a little family in my heart. Eventually Michele’s two beautiful daughters were getting married, and Marco and I had the privilege to photograph their stories. A few weeks ago I got a phone call from Michele asking if I could help her out with images for her new book.  I was elated and thrilled for her. Marco and I spent a few hours with Michele and her husband Marty. We shared stories, coffee, and took some amazing photographs. This will be Michele’s 4th book.  She speaks all over the world and is an award-winning writer. If you have the time, check out her Faith Builders Ministries, it’s incredible.

Thank you Michele for being light in this crazy world.

Photography Going Personal | KC Photographers

Personal Portrait Photography | Divya

Photography has always been something personal to me, especially as I put my heart in the click of every shutter. Something that I have learned over the years is the importance photos have on our lives. How images today speak a thousand words, and at times it feels like we are talking 90 miles a min, especially on Instagram. It has become more apparent that we have to put ourselves out there visually with personal portrait photography. To show our families that we are ok, to get that job we’ve always wanted, to just show the world “I am happy and doing really well”.

Over the past 5 years I have had the privilege to expand our photography business into something special. We provide portraits to couples, not just people getting engaged but couples of all ages and walks of life. I have also expanded into personal portrait photography, taking commercial / senior portrait style portraits for the individual. These photos can be done at anytime, you don’t have to be graduating to get amazing images. There should be no limits on artistic portraits.

Here is a recent personal portrait session. I think Divya is stunning. She was great to work with and is simply beautiful.  Thank you for choosing me to take your photos. I hope that you love them.

Nashville Commercial Photography

Whitney’s Commercial photo-shoot in Nashville

Commercial Photography | Photos Edge

Marco and I drove through the city, up and down the streets of downtown Nashville, looking for the perfect locations to photograph a recording artist. Whitney, who had moved to Nashville about a year ago was really pushing herself as an artist. Like anyone who is creating a name and brand for themselves Whitney needed photos. Images that could get her look in line with her music.

I pulled up behind an old vintage car that reminded me of Johnny Cash. Immediately the songs Ring of Fire and Walk the Line came to mind. I fell in love with Nashville in that split second.  After a huge down pour of rain, my feet hit the pavement with Marco by my side as we headed to Starbucks a few blocks away.  Only a few steps and my linen pants were soaked, thinking I could make it, we finished a full block before going back to the car to grab my jeans. Several blocks later we had 3 beautiful locations chosen, so Marco and I finally made it to get our morning coffee.

I saw her with cool red hair mixed in with her dark dark brown hair and I was blown away. Right away we hugged and I missed my friend who I hadn’t seen in years.  With only an hour and a half, and several locations I wanted to go. We got to work, creating some wonderful marketable commercial photography out of the Nashville city skyline and streets. I am excited to see what Whitney does with all of these photos!

Attached is a video slideshow featuring Whitney’s lovely voice and her new photos.  Please Enjoy!

Editorial Feature in The Perfect Wedding Guide

Wedding Cake and Engagement Feature

I shared with everyone what it was like to photograph a bunch of delicious cakes a few weeks ago with a peek into the photos that were taken. Here is a link to our Wedding Cake post.   Seeing the photos that I had taken in The Perfect Wedding Guide Magazine, for their editorial spread made me jump up and down.  The design layout was innovative.  I loved how it showed off the images I had taken along with all the cake companies.   It was so cool that I had to take photos of the magazine and show everyone.

When I was flipping through the issue I was elated to see so many wedding vendors using our photos for their ads.  It is a huge compliment when other vendors choose to use the weddings we photograph in their ads.  And a gigantic honor to our couples.

Last but definitely not least, Allie & Will had their engagement announcement in the wedding magazine.  I loved their engagement session it was “so, JCrew” !

I love that I was able to photograph the feature this year for the PWG!  Wedding cakes are a lot of fun!

There were so many different types of cakes. I was honored to have such a large feature.

This was one of several companies that are using our photos in ads.  I LOVE the Gown Gallery! The wedding in their ad was a featured wedding in a magazine as well!

Photos Edge has 2 weddings featured in EA Bride Magazine

Amazing Kansas City Weddings

Wanting Published Wedding Photographers? You may have found us!

The magazine wanted something whimsical and fun-loving, with a Do It Yourself (DIY) feel. And then something else a lot different in styling.  However both couples evoked wedding joy. It was the Spring issue of EA bride , and I knew I had the 2 perfect weddings. I sent over Kasara & Jake for the fun loving DIY wedding, their day was a sweet celebration with family, friends, and their little girl.  The other wedding was Kelly & Brice who had a fun wedding with a Masquerade styling.  Guests, including the bride, had fun masks that they played with during the reception.  Each couple told their story, sharing how they fell in love, and the magazine fell in love with them right back.  It was an honor not just to document such wonderful weddings but to also have them featured.  Thank you EA Bride for loving our wedding photography as much as our couples do.

Here are the photos that I took of the magazine.  Enjoy!

Shatto Milk & the Kauffman Center: Stephanie + Ben

Couples photography

Couples photography

She smiled as she held his hand, she took a slight glance down at the ground and giggled. Ben smiled back and looked at Stephanie like she was the only woman in the world.  To Ben…She is!  Marco and I photographed Stephanie and Ben hanging out with Shatto Milk, their favorite.  The photos were fun and contemporary.  They have been married for awhile and decided to have some creative portraits of themselves done. The best reason of all: “Because I want to!”  Toward the end of their session we headed over to the Kauffman Center for the Preforming Arts where we took some beautiful photos of the two of them and their dog, Maestro.  I love this dog!  Super Sweet!

Ben talked about how someday he will be singing at the Kauffman Center, someday…  And I believe someday will come sooner than he thinks.  Ben is an AMAZING, Singer!  Marco and I should know, we have preformed with he and Stephanie. And Ben is phenomenal.   I have wanted to photograph Stephanie since I was in college and she and I studied voice together.  I am so happy that I got the chance to finally photograph her.  I am sure when you see the photos you will understand why.  Enjoy!
