Kansas City Wedding at Union Station
and Liberty Memorial

She glanced out the window of the Westin hotel several times before finally letting herself relax and enjoy the view. For the most part Asona was ready to go. She had twirled in her wedding gown, laughed with her sister, and had every item perfectly in place. The flowers still in the box the florist had brought them in, matched the room. It was a sea of purple, violet, and lilac with the boldness of green. Each girl started off the day wearing a violet robe and then individualized purple raw silk dresses. Oh, to be in that room again, Asona looking at her ceremony site from the large window above, each chair perfectly in place creating a circle around the altar. It was both unique and remarkable.
Each bridal party member got out of the trolley and walked down the isle. It wasn’t until Asona got off of the trolley with her mom and dad and began walking down the grassy isle that Marco’s smile really lit up. It didn’t matter that he had seen her hours before the ceremony. This was their day, and this was the moment she would become his wife.
The ceremony was customized for Marco and Asona; they taught a lesson of sorts, with each groomsman holding a flash card. The couple then shared with their dearest friends and family some of their secrets, as to why they love each other. All the while Union Station and the Kansas City Skyline created the perfect backdrop for this one of a kind Kansas City Wedding. Their ceremony was a true union between cultures and families. As prayers were said and blessings made, both families signed the marriage decree. The couple kissed, held hands, and happily jumped the broom. As they danced back down the isle the sun shined through the buildings, evening was here and it was time to celebrate.
Union Station echoed with joy and laughter. Compliments flooded the bride and groom as they ate dinner, on how amazing everything looked and how fun their ceremony was. Each table was adorned with purple flowers like the bridal bouquet, and the head table that ran down the middle of the room was covered in moss and purple blooms, like a romantic garden with gold accents. It resembled a modern fairytale, staged to perfection by the lovely Erika and her team at Eco Posh Events.
Whispers filled the crowded room and then fell to a halt as the couple danced and danced and danced. Everyone knew that Asona and Marco had taken dance lessons for years in Chicago before moving to Kansas City. But not very many of the guests had actually seen them in action. It was a fun treat that started off celebrations from professional dancers, and speeches that brought the room to laughter. We ended the fourth of July weekend festivities with a sparkler send off. It had to be done! But as we were heading out, the lovely couple had one more request. Asona, while holding Marco’s hand said, “My brother has this idea…” I smiled and said, “I can do anything you want.” She happily ran and got her brother who shared with me the goal of this final photo. He and his other cousins, 3 of them to be exact, wanted to run around Asona and Marco with sparklers. I chimed in and said I have the perfect spot. Together at midnight on the lawn of the Liberty Memorial, Asona and Marco ended their wedding day and began a beautiful new journey.

I love the time documented in this photo. At 6:30 the ceremony will begin. Thank you to the seriously talented Erica at Eco Posh Events for the coordination of this wedding.
What a background! Asona and Marco really embraced Kansas City. This photo is a prime reason why Marco and I work as a husband and wife team. I was able to get some really artistic shots for the couple while Marco captured the more traditional shots. Lets face it, they are both important. We don’t want you to miss anything!
The details on her dress inspired the wedding cup cake.
Reminds me of Grace Kelly and Fred Astaire, I think this image really captures the way their dancing felt.
Performance was choreographed by Tyrone Aiken, Executive Director of the Kansas City Friends of Alvin Ailey. This was Tyrone’s wedding present to Asona and Marco.
Asona and Marco danced out of their wedding with great cheer. Completing their 4th of July wedding weekend with a sparkler release!
